I too am an airline pilot who has experienced this very same thing on these shoes...it's a shame as they are very comfortable and airport friendly."I'm an airline pilot and wear these shoes 3-4 days/week when working. I've owned 6 pairs. A tremendously comfortable and attractive shoe. We don't have to remove our shoes at the airport, so I really like these shoes, which do not have a metal shank to set off the metal detector (critical to me). HOWEVER: The black "leather" shoe is really some sort of thin black veneer which peels off and makes the shoe unusable. The veneer starts to crack and peel either at the junction of the upper and the sole or at any crease that forms in the upper from walking - such as behind the toe/in front of the laces. I take care of the shoes and get them shined regularly/keep them in a cedar shoe tree at home. I'm finally sick of replacing the shoe every 6-9 months and I'm going to another brand. This makes me sad because these shoes would be perfect if they didn't fall apart so quickly. Wears this shoe: 3-4 days per week for work

Purchased for my husband for work. He is on his feet alot and wanted a comfortable, well made shoe. He has had them for 3 months and the soles of the shoe are coming apart. Very disappointed in this shoe. He loves the comfort and the look but the quality? Not so sure. Wears this shoe: Work

Same as the rest. I bought my first pair about 15 yrs ago. Absolutely loved them. They were rock solid and so comfortable. They eventually wore out. The next pair peeled up after about 8 months. Cust. Serv. couldn't/wouldn't help. So I bought my third pair. The peelings started about 3 months later. How much could you possibly save by using that cheap veneer? I'd gladly pay an extra $15 or $20 to get the original quality that I fell in love with. The people who wear your Times shoes, can afford to pay more if it means we are getting a quality product. For Comfort and Wearability: 5 huge stars. For the poor laminating job: 1 star. Wears this shoe: Chiropractor. On my feet 14 hours a day.

Bought my first pair at the NYC store 15 years ago. They were the best shoes I had ever worn and I recommended them to people all over the U.S. Two years ago my last pair wore out and I ordered a new pair. I am so disappointed in the terrible quality in these shoes. I found out from an employee that Deerstags are no longer made in NYC, they are now made in China, which explains the awful quality of their shoes now. I will not by another pair of Deerstags until they return to making the high quality products that they were known for. For that to happen, they MUST start making Deerstags in-house again, AND in the U.S. Wears this shoe: Dress and casual

My shoes are three months old and the toe is peeling off. I'm not pleased with this. They are not made of leather as advertised. It is some kind of synthetic material. The peeled part is stretchy and there is grey material under the surface. The shoes fit fine and feel fine. I work in a manufacturing plant and the soles pick up a lot of debris. I had my first pair for something like 10 years. For the last part of that, I wore them many times a week. I looked forward to putting them on every morning. They finally wore out and I'm getting a new pair. I can't overstate how comfortable these shoes are! I find myself preferring them to my tennis shoes when I am doing a lot of walking. They are the best. Wears this shoe: 3 -4 times a week, as a college prof.

This shoe feels great. I work in a corporate office but do a lot of walking. These shoes were perfect until about 2 months ago when the black on the uppers started to bubble and peel away. The layer is paper this over a grey material. The shoe is now only 1 year old so it started after 10 mos. Again I work in office so the shoe looks like new except for the black peeling off. Per other reviews looks like PA reviewer and me maybe just got a bad pair. If this had not happened I would recommend this shoe to anyone. My feet still feel good at the end of the day. But the shoes look bad. Wears this shoe: At work only 8 hr shift

the product is good. Have been buying this style for several years now. Perfect for what I need. My only problem is with the time it takes to get to me. 7 to 10 days. I know it is free shipping and not your fault but I wish I could get them quicker without the added expense. Wears this shoe: everyday at work

My husband has worn deer stags for many years, I buy from shoebuy for the great service and quality as well as prices. My husband recently bought a pair similar for over $100 while on vacation,he had me order another pair of deer stags and has been wearing ever since, his hip has quit hurting and the comfort is beyond compare for him compared to the pricier pair. We will order again.......and again!!! Wears this shoe: workplace and in the office and for walking

Bought these for son's high school graduation. He's worn them once, says they're comfortable. They look great. Can't beat the price for actual leather shoes.

After only having the shoes for 6 months, the soles have started to separate from the rest of the shoe and the leather started to have small cracks through out the shoes. I use them work and since I travel all the time, they don't set off the metal detectors which is nice. They don't breath well at all and make my feet sweat. Not impressed with the shoes at all. I would not recommend these to anyone. Wears this shoe: Work/Travel

This is my third pair of Deer Stags Times. I buy them for airport travel as they don't set on the magnetometers. They take a number of wears to break in, but are very comfortable once broken in. Wears this shoe: Travel
