1929
Deer Stags brand is born. Osceola Shoe Company, owned by the Page family, begins producing slip lasted comfort shoes for men and women.
1940's
Jack and Hy Muskat begin selling shoes for General Shoe Company (now Genesco).
1964
Jack and Hy start Dunbar Boot Company and pioneered the manufacture of genuine cowboy boots in Spain. They enter into an exclusive contract with Acme Boot Company (then the largest boot maker in the world!) to produce a new line, branded Dan Post. Dan Post becomes a top brand of cowboy boots in America.
1968
Jack and Hy start Glen Shoe Company as an off-shoot of Dunbar.
1970's
Jack's sons (Michael, Rick and Steven) along with Howard Weiss join Glen Shoe Company and pioneer several groundbreaking products and promotions, including:
- The Nature Shoe by Glen
- GREASE... an innovative line of children's shoes featuring the Grease Car Shoe (Greased Lightning) and other promotional tie-ins to the smash hit film
- SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER... an exciting line of disco shoes for men and women featuring John Travolta promotional tie-ins to the smash hit film
- Promotional tie-ins to major Hollywood films and TV hits including:
- Star Trek
- Mork and Mindy
- Superman, Wonder Woman and various Waner Bros. superheros
- The Glen Jazz Oxford
- On Wheels roller skates
1970's
Deer Stags new line of slip-lasted comfort shoes made from Genuine Deerskin sets a new standard as comfort shoes begin to dominate the market. Sold through department and specialty stores, this collection becomes wildly popular and widely copied by other brands.
1980's
- Glen Shoe develops Somersaults, the first “stitch and turn” shoe
- Glen Shoe introduces Switch, an innovative line of interchangeable zipper shoes and is recognized by the National Shoe Fair as the most innovative product of 1986
- Glen enters private label sourcing business, developing and sourcing product for major national brands, including:
- Rockport
- Bass
- Florsheim
- Nunn Bush
- Dingo
- Stacy Adams
- Thom McAn
- Kinney
1986
The Page family sells Osceola Shoe Company (and the Deer Stags brand) to Kelso Inc.
1989
Kelso Inc. liquidates the Osceola business.
- The management team of Glen Shoe Company acquires the Deer Stags brand
1990's
- Deer Stags becomes major national brand of men's comfort footwear
- Third generation of Muskats join the Company - Alison, Darryl, Danny
1999
First Deer Stags Web Site "goes live."
2000
Deer Stags introduces S.U.P.R.O. Sock Technology
- Deer Stags introduces women's line
2002
Deer Stags introduces the TIMES.
- Becomes number one selling men's dress casual shoe according to NPD report.
- Deer Stags, Inc. named as Vendor the Year by:
- JC Penney
- Mervyns
- Bob's Stores
- Deer Stags women's shoes introduced on QVC
2004
- Oh...Deer! Women's shoes introduced to consumers
2005
- Deer Stags continues to increase market share as #1 brand of men's dress casual footwear in the national chain stores
- Oh....Deer! Brand hits Department Stores, Specialty Stores, QVC, etc.
- Another Muskat (Jeni) joins the team
- Deer Stags women's shoes featured for the first time on QVC as a stand alone show
- Deer Stags acquires license for Nick-It brand shoes
- New Deer Stags Web Site launches
2006
- DS creates an infomercial and sells the Comfort Shoe on national TV
- DS introduces “Slipperooz”
- Oh…DEER! is featured on DAILY CANDY and in major consumer magazines
- Oh…DEER! appears on the Today Show, Entertainment Tonight and Access Hollywood.
2007
- DS sells “Slipperooz” on national TV
- Oh…DEER! appears in TV shows such as The Hills, Laguna Beach and Desperate Housewives
- The youngest of the Muskat family (Jake) joins the company
2008
- Oh…DEER! is introduced to the Home Shopping Network
- Packaging is re-designed for OH DEER
- Deer Stags Ships 2 millionth pair of best-selling Times oxford.
2009
- Deer Stags employees participate in Citicares on Martin Luther King Day
- Deer Stags establishes “Young Professionals for Two Ten” with a kick-off party at Gallery Bar, NYC
- Deer Stags raises $15,000 for the Two Ten Footwear Foundation
- Rick Muskat named Membership Chairman of FDRA, Footwear Industry’s Trade Association
